It’s great when a band doesn’t take itself so seriously. Especially in the metal genre where the music sounds harsh, aggressive, and hellish, it's fresh when a death metal grunter starts to sing about puppies, and love, and other things that are…fun. Some definitions of fun could be unorthodox. How fun is it to get 'Dragged By A Truck', or to be force-fed your own dick? Well, it's definitely fun to listen to this record by Sangusilf……Sanshaoijd…….Sanguisugabogg. 

So….want to be Tortured Whole?



If you like your death metal filthy, crusty, and infectiously groovy baby, Saggyboobiesthemesong is the band for you. Just look at the album cover. That’s one hell of a lower back tattoo. Made by Nightmare Imagery who does artwork for almost every band on the Maggot Stomp label, this person has such a connection with what he’s hearing.

Formed in 2019, Sangasonginaraggedthong are from Columbus, Ohio. They were signed on the famous Maggot Stomp label who released their demo Pornographic Seizures in 2019. From there the band began to write the music for what now has become Tortured Whole. By using a lot of drugs they managed to write the most fun death metal of 2021 so far.

Why? Because the lyrical content could give Tipper Gore a seizure or a huge orgasm. You pick. 'Menstrual Envy' is the perfect album opener, a track about men that experience menstrual inconveniences and grow insanely fond of it. Just check out the video for this song made in coöperation with the famous Troma Entertainment Productions. And while you’re at it, check out the insanely ridiculous videos of 'Gored In The Chest' and 'Dead As Shit' as well. These guys must have laughed their asses off making these. I must mention 'Urinary Ichor', which contains one of the best lyrics on the album. It’s about a god who pisses blood over the Earth. Raining Bloooooood from a crimson piss-filled sky. I can’t get the image of a giant god pissing blood over our planet out of my head, sorry. 



The eeh….’glue’ that keeps it all nice and sticky is the music. Death metal should sound filthy, harsh, aggressive but once in a while, a band brings out an album that has such an original sound. I’m talking about Afterbirth’s Four-Dimensional Flesh with the ambient soundscapes, Cryptic Shift with its Pastorius-Esque bass play, or Thaetas with its improvising. On Tortured Whole it’s the drums that make me want to listen to this album over and over again. The snare sounds twangy and it fits perfectly. Every hit on the cymbals is audible and it’s a real joy to exactly know where in which part of a song that special sounding ‘ting’ is coming.



But the most important thing is that Shatinatrannyssarong just grooves back and forth like a huge….dong. Each song has headbanging grooves and the vocals are a big part of that. They are so deliciously rhythmic. It just works.

And keep in mind that this is a debut album! I really can't wait to hear what more batshit crazy stuff they come up with. As long as they keep that groove in, I’ll be there.

Wills Dissolve - Echoes

On the 28th Of August, progressive death metal band Wills Dissolve releases their second album 'Echoes' on Hypnotic Dirge Records.  Tracklist: 1. Echoes (31:36) With just one track that lasts half an hour the band from Houston, Texas takes you on a journey into the endless void of space. To name their record ' Echoes ' takes guts. Obviously, the band is hugely influenced by Pink Floyd and their masterpiece ' Echoes ' is unparalleled. However, Wills Dissolve pulls out all the stops. They paint a science fictional picture of a star-filled purple vortex. In the end, a giant black hole lurks, like the mouth of an all-devouring cosmic giant.   The story is about an astronaut who travels to the outer rims of space to find a new home for humanity. Crypts - Coven of The Dead

  Formed in 2018, the death metal band Crypts makes old school death metal in the likes of Bolt Thrower and Autopsy. With their experience in black-, power-, and doom metal, Coven of The Dead is an album filled with promising ideas.  Hailing from Münster, Germany, these guys have made a debut album to definitely be proud of. Their sound is gnarly, groovy and dirty at the same time. The artwork by Sebastian Jerke resembles the music perfectly.  Death metal needs to be definable and on this record, you hear everything, especially the drums, which actually sound like drums! 'Deathking Coronation' and 'Nuclear Vengeance' are perfect examples of that. It makes the band sound original and very interesting to listen to. And that's not the only thing that makes this album interesting, they do not just play death metal, but there are some trash/heavy metal influences on 'Final War' and some death-doom/horror soundtrack influences on the title track and 'Paura'
